Acrylic painting using glazing medium (540mm x 360mm). I quite like how the medium works with the paint and makes it easier and more manageable to work with. The finished composition has a lot more depth paint wise and the glaze deepens the colour. Al

Pannier Market Pigeons.

A mixed media painting of the Barnstaple Pannier Market. Sun entering a doorway and pigeons pecking grain thrown down by an elderly lady. I particularly liked the play of light on the floor tiles. Approx 320 x 280mm on watercolour paper. Al
Saunton Beach Late Afternoon.
Quick Procreate sketch of late sunshine on Saunton Beach in North Devon. Drawn onto an iPad with a soft pen, but is it really art? Al
Putsborough to Woolacombe.
Finished and mounted pastel drawing. Dimensions (540mm x 540mm). Like to leave vapour trails in the sky. I’m always wondering where the plane’s are going and what adventures the passengers are going to have. Used to love travelling 😎
Putsborough to Woolacombe.
Finished Pastel sketch ready for a mount. I find it quite hard to finish a composition and still leave it with a sense of freshness and spontaneity. This is of a rather beautiful walk along Putsborough Beach after the tide has fallen leaving wonderful reflections of the sky on the wet sand. Al
Westward Ho.
Spring is nearly here so for the next few day’s I’ll be walking the local beaches in search of inspiration with my knackered Sony pocket camera.
Amelia.
Finished iPad painting from the Procreate application. It’s great fun to play with and I may do some more limited editions. It’s the sort of thing you can pick up and put down when ever you want and is great for filling in time. Why waste time when you’re not painting on the drawing board when you could be doodling on your iPad.
Woolacombe Beach Sunday Walk.
A rather cold Sunday walk along the beach this afternoon with my wife and twins. Trying to gain some inspiration for a large multimedia picture. The beaches around North Devon are just wonderful and I’ve been looking toward painting a large composition of a beach with a big dramatic sky. The colours were really punchy today with the full winter sunlight so hopefully I’ve managed to get some photographic reference down. This photograph was taken on Putsborough Beach looking towards a sunny Woolacombe in the distance. We’re very lucky to live in such a wonderful part of the country.
Summer Stream at Arlington Court.
Finished mixed media picture (825mmx 500mm). Time to stop fighting with this one!
Monsoon Approaching Koh Samui.
Watercolour of the hot monsoon approaching Koh Samui, Thailand. Original picture taken from a ferry to the mainland at Surat Thani. Large composition of a very hot and humid day in the 1990s.
