Big thank you to Peter Stiles & The Plough Arts Centre for allowing me to exhibit on their Artist’s Wall. I spent the morning setting up early with a nice cup of coffee. My exhibition is now open but will run officially from the 21st September to 19th October. Al
Last night I spent an enjoyable evening exhibiting work with photographers Adrian Beasley & Stephen Raff. This event was a preview exhibition for this year’s North Devon Art Trek 2019. The name Black Arts originated from our collective work of black & white photography and Bideford Black paintings.
Throughout the evening Adrian showed his skills in photo editing for which he runs regular weekend courses far and wide. He also performed some electronic music, has numerous albums and performs with the group Airsculpture. Stephen took some traditional wet plate portraits which intrigued the audience greatly. I chatted about my sourcing of the Bideford Black pigment, it’s preparation and usage. For us the evening turned out much better than we had anticipated and we’d like to say a great thanks for those who attended. Al
To start Art Trek this year Adrian Beasley, Stephen Raff and Al Brown will be holding an exhibition at The Old School used by The Pilton Art Group, beside Pilton Church. This is also near to the Ladywell in Pilton, Barnstaple EX31 1QT. The evening is a preview of our work Adrian & Stephen are both photographers and myself a multimedia artist. Should be an interesting evening including Adrian’s music and you’ll be pleased to know that drinks will also be available!
I have just completed four highly enjoyable days at this year’s Hatherleigh Festival and parted with a few paintings. More importantly I’ve met new people, artists and musicians. I’m hoping that the contacts I’ve made here will help further my artistic endeavours in the future. There are so many creative and enthusiastic people here you can see why the town is known as a hub of creativity. I’ve received such positive feedback about my work my confidence can only grow, so if you’ve never visited this wonderful town then do so you’re in for a great surprise. I’d just like to say thanks to Josie, Mick and Alan for your generosity. Al
I’m very pleased to have a mention in The Gazette this week with regard to the North Devon Art Trek 2019. Please check out their site and see what North Devon has to offer. I was so pleased with last year’s open studio weeks that I shall be doing the same this year. Al
Wonderful to have been selected to exhibit at The Burton Gallery in Bideford, North Devon. I have two paintings on show and for sale. One entitled A backroad of Bishop’s Tawton and the other Linhay on the marsh. If you get the chance please visit this show as there are some wonderful pieces of work to see. The exhibition runs from the 17th November to the 23rd December 2018. Al
Very pleased to have a painting accepted by the Burton Gallery for this year’s Christmas exhibition. It is of my mixed media painting Gateway To Manning’s Pit. Please visit the website on facebook Friends Of Manning’s Pit who are trying to save a wonderful area of our English countryside from a planning application to build affordable housing. The very thought of this going through upsets me greatly. Al
Tiz me at the Instow Yacht Club annual RNLI exhibition. Looking like a character from The Grapes Of Wrath straight from work. Hopefully I can manage to sell at least one picture to keep me in paints and brushes, so if you live close to Instow in North Devon please come along and have a look. Lots of paintings, jewelry, ceramics & textiles. Sadly no paintings sold but managed to part with a few prints, that’s showbiz. AL
